How it works Nifedipine is a calcium channel blocker. It works by relaxing blood vessels which makes the heart more efficient at pumping blood throughout the body.
How to use Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Nifedipine may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
Interactions / Warnings Alcohol Interaction with alcohol is unknown. Please consult your doctor. warnings Pregnancy WEIGH RISKS VS BENEFITS Nifedipine may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the fetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor. warnings Lactation SAFE Nifedipine is safe to use during lactation. Human studies have shown that either the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in significant amount or is not expected to cause toxicity to the baby. warnings Driving Do not drive unless you are feeling well. Nifedipine may make you feel dizzy, faint, extremely tired or have visual disturbances. This may affect your ability to drive. warnings Kidney SAFE Nifedipine is safe to use in patients with kidney disease. No dose adjustment of Nifedipine is recommended. However, talk to your doctor if you have any underlying kidney disease. warnings Liver CAUTION Nifedipine should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Nifedipine may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
